The Supreme Court of Nigeria has reserved judgment in the appeal filed by Samuel Anyanwu, challenging his removal as the Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Anyanwu’s appeal seeks to overturn the judgment of the
Court of Appeal, Enugu, which upheld his removal from office.
Anyanwu’s counsel, Ken Njemanze (SAN), argued that the lower court erred in law by assuming jurisdiction over an
internal party matter. He contended that party leadership and membership issues are non-justiciable and beyond the
jurisdiction of any court.
The respondents in the appeal, including the PDP and its acting National Chairman, Ambassador Iliya Damagun,
urged the court to dismiss the appeal. Senior counsel Erokoro argued that Anyanwu had resigned and that the trial
court had already ruled on the matter.
Njemanze insisted that the courts lacked jurisdiction to hear the case, as it pertained to the internal affairs of the PDP.
He urged the Supreme Court to allow the appeal and set aside the lower court’s decision.

The Supreme Court panel, presided over by Justice Uwani Musa Abba-Aji, reserved judgment to a later date, which
will be communicated to the parties. The court also struck out Anyanwu’s motion for a stay of execution.
The outcome of the appeal is eagerly awaited, as it will determine the fate of Anyanwu and the leadership of the PDP.
The party has been embroiled in a leadership crisis, with Anyanwu’s removal sparking controversy.
The Supreme Court’s decision will have significant implications for the PDP and its members. The party is expected
to await the court’s judgment before making any further decisions on its leadership.
In the meantime, the PDP has continued to face challenges, including the suspension of one of its senators, Natasha
