Kano Government Clarifies Appeal Court Ruling on Emir Sanusi’s Reinstatement

The Kano Government has clarified the recent Appeal Court ruling regarding the reinstatement of Muhammadu

Sanusi II as the 16th Emir of Kano. According to the Commissioner of Justice, Barrister Haruna Dederi, the ruling did

not affect Emir Sanusi’s status as the rightful Emir of Kano.

Dederi stated that the Appeal Court’s decision was misinterpreted by some quarters, leading to confusion among the

general public. He emphasized that the court’s ruling was not a reversal of the earlier judgment that upheld Emir

Sanusi’s reinstatement.

The Commissioner of Justice explained that the Appeal Court’s decision was actually a routine application for a stay

of execution pending the hearing and determination of the subsisting appeal before the Supreme Court. He described

the application as a normal and usual routine in judicial processes.

Dederi assured the public that the Kano State Government has instructed its lawyers to study the outcome of the

Appeal Court’s ruling and determine the next line of action in accordance with the state’s extant laws.

The Commissioner of Justice called on the general public to resist any provocation and continue to be law-abiding.

He emphasized that the judiciary is a sacred institution that must be respected and guarded for the preservation of

peace and orderliness in society.

The Kano State Government’s clarification on the Appeal Court ruling has helped to calm tensions and reassure the

public that Emir Sanusi’s status as the rightful Emir of Kano remains unchanged.
