Manchester United extended their unbeaten streak in open play to seven games, easing past a struggling Leicester

city team.

Rasmus Hojlund gave United the lead in the 28th minute, ending a 21-game goal drought.

Early in the second half, Alejandro Garnacho was called offside, forcing the Argentine to wait for his first goal since November.

However, Garnacho proved unstoppable with a quick shot that Mads Hermansen ought to have blocked.

This season, United has defeated Leicester in all four encounters, including two when Ruud van Nistelrooy, the Foxes’

current manager, was the Red Devils’ interim manager.

At the King Power, however, the Dutchman has not had the same influence.

Leicester is nine points outside of safety after losing 13 of their last 14 league games.

In addition, Van Nistelrooy’s team unintentionally became the first Premier League team to go seven games at home without scoring.

Unsurprisingly, Bruno Fernandes scored his seventh goal in seven games with a spectacular strike from the edge of the box to seal United’s victory.

Tottenham’s triumph over AZ Alkmaar on Thursday kept their season alive and advanced them to the Europa League

quarterfinals, but they suffered the most recent in a string of European hangovers when they lost 2-0 at Fulham.

“It’s been a difficult campaign for sure,” said Spurs captain Son Heung-min.

“But I feel we’ve lost too many games that we should have got stuff out of, and this was one of those games.”

Victory for Fulham propels Marco Silva’s men into the race for Champions League places as they climb to eighth, four

points off the top four and three outside the top five.

A top-five finish will almost certainly secure a place in Europe’s top club competition next season thanks to the strong

performance of English sides in European competitions.
