A daring joint security operation involving the police and military has successfully rescued a kidnapped naval officer, Lt. Cynthia Akor, and two civilians in Abuja. The victims were abducted by armed men on March 21, 2025, in Mpape, Abuja.
The kidnappers had demanded a ransom of ₦500 million for the naval officer and ₦200 million each for the civilians. However, the police and military were hot on their heels, tracking them down to a Fulani resettlement in Anguwan Mu’azu and Yelwa Hills.
The rescue operation, which took place between 2 am and 5:30 am on March 23, resulted in the arrest of four suspects and the recovery of ₦3.2 million, suspected to be ransom money from previous kidnapping operations.
The police and military worked tirelessly to track down the kidnappers, using credible intelligence to locate their hideout. The successful rescue operation is a testament to the effectiveness of the joint security efforts.
The rescued victims are currently receiving medical care at the Nigerian Army Clinic and are in stable condition. The police have assured that efforts are ongoing to track and apprehend the remaining suspects currently at large.
The FCT Police Command has reinforced security deployments in Mpape and surrounding areas to prevent future occurrences. The police have also advised members of the public to go about their daily activities without any apprehension.
The successful rescue operation is a welcome relief to the families of the victims and the general public. It also sends a strong message to kidnappers and other criminals that the security agencies are committed to protecting lives and property.
The police and military have demonstrated their capacity to work together to achieve a common goal. This collaboration is essential in the fight against kidnapping and other forms of criminality.
