Professor Ibibia Worika, a legal expert and administrator, has been named the new Secretary to the State Government (SSG) by Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd), the sole administrator of Rivers State.
The administrator reaffirmed his dedication to using Rivers State’s abundant human resources to promote security, stability, and peace.
According to a statement from the Sole Administrator, Worika’s broad experience, academic background, and policy knowledge made her stand out during a rigorous selection process that resulted in the appointment, which is effective immediately.
In a parallel move, Iyingi Brown was named Permanent Secretary for Welfare in the Office of the Head of Service by the former Naval leader, who will serve as Head of Service until a permanent replacement is found.
The appointment came after George Nwaeke, the substantive Head of Service, resigned.
The government thanked Nwaeke for his achievements during his time there and wished him luck in his future undertakings in a statement.
The administrator emphasised his dedication to preserving peace and stability in Rivers State while congratulating Brown on her new position.

According to the announcement, Worika’s illustrious career, which included high-level policy advising positions, international legal practice, and academia, made him ideally prepared to assist the administrator in fulfilling the state’s mandate as set forth by President Bola Tinubu.
“Professor Worika’s wealth of experience in legal scholarship, public policy, and governance will be instrumental in driving the administration’s agenda. His appointment underscores our dedication to excellence in public service,” the statement read.
The sole administrator underlined his dedication to promoting peace, stability, and security by utilising Rivers State’s abundant human capital.
