A devastating road accident in Osun State has claimed the lives of six people, including five students of Osun State
University (UNIOSUN). The incident occurred on March 23, 2025, in Ikire, Osun State, when a luxurious bus collided
with a commercial bus.
The luxurious bus driver, Ibrahim Muntari, 35, has been remanded in custody by an Osun State Magistrate Court
sitting in Osogbo. Muntari was charged with eight counts, including driving in a manner dangerous to the public,
causing death by reckless driving, and violating traffic rules.
According to the police prosecutor, ASP Akintunde Jacob, Muntari drove the bus without a driving license,
roadworthiness document, or vehicle insurance. This reckless behavior led to the death of six people and injured four others.
The victims of the accident were identified as Olagbemide Olaoluwadotun, Funmilola Mary Olawuyi, Ogundare
Oluwapelumi Rhoda, Ogundare Ayomide, Farooq Suleiman, and others whose names and addresses are yet unknown.

The court denied Muntari’s bail application and adjourned the case to June 2, 2025. The presiding magistrate, Dr.
Olusegun Ayilara, ordered that Muntari be remanded in custody pending the next hearing.
The incident has sparked outrage and raised concerns about road safety and the need for stricter traffic regulations.
Many have called for tougher penalties for reckless drivers and improved enforcement of traffic laws.
The UNIOSUN community is still reeling from the loss of their colleagues, and the university has promised to provide
support and counseling to affected students and families.
The Osun State government has also been urged to take steps to prevent such accidents in the future, including
improving road infrastructure and enhancing traffic enforcement.
