To commemorate his first year in office, Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State initiated the commissioning of various Zamfara Rescue projects in Gummi, Bukkuyum, and Maru Local Government Areas. The Governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, announced that the commissioning began with the Tsangaya Modern School in Gummi Local Government Area, offering both Islamic and Western education.
The state government introduced a series of projects under the ‘Zamfara Rescue projects’ umbrella to mark Governor Dauda Lawal’s first year in office. The Tsangaya Modern School, named after the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, was inaugurated with the presence of the Sultan as a special guest.
Governor Lawal embarked on a state-wide tour of the 14 Local Government Areas of Zamfara to unveil key projects initiated by his administration in the past year. The projects, known as rescue projects, focus on enhancing security, healthcare, education, infrastructure, and other essential areas for the residents.
During his address in Gummi, Governor Lawal emphasized that the Tsangaya school project was conceived and implemented to ensure universal basic education for all children in Zamfara State. The integration of Islamic and Western education in the Tsangaya system aims to equip children with the knowledge and skills necessary for their future success.
By incorporating Arabic schools’ curricula into the Universal Basic Education program, the government aims to merge Islamic studies and Western education. This approach will enhance children’s skills development and spiritual well-being by teaching subjects like English, Mathematics, Social Studies, vocational education, and Islamic studies.
The Tsangaya Modern School project includes the construction of nine hostels, teachers’ quarters, a perimeter wall, solar-powered electrification, boreholes, furniture, and teaching facilities. Additionally, a vocational center will offer training in various skills like carpentry, tailoring, computer appreciation, and more to help students acquire practical expertise and livelihood opportunities.
In Bukkuyum Local Government Area, Governor Lawal inaugurated the upgraded General Hospital in Nasarawa Burkullu, providing comprehensive healthcare services such as emergency care, surgical procedures, and maternal and child health services. The project involved constructing new structures and refurbishing existing ones to enhance healthcare delivery.
Furthermore, in Maru Local Government Area, Governor Lawal inspected the ongoing renovation of the General Hospital Maru, focusing on repairing structures and installing modern facilities to improve the hospital’s capacity to deliver effective healthcare services to the community.
