Former governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, has said he and other opposition figures held a nocturnal meeting on how to win against President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
El-Rufai, who was formerly of the All Progressives Congress and a one-time ally of Tinubu, recently defected to the Social Democratic Party.
He emphasised that his main goal was to ensure the incumbent did not win his reelection bid in 2027.
El-Rufai made the statement at the Arewa TechFest in Katsina on Wednesday.
“Yesterday at 8:00 p.m., there was a very important meeting of the coalition we’re putting together to ensure that President Tinubu goes back to Lagos,” El-Rufai said.
The former Kaduna governor added, “Though we will still keep Bosun Tijani. We will still keep the minister because he is doing good work.”
In March, when he defected to the SDP, El-Rufai vowed to lead a coalition to challenge Tinubu in the 2027 election.
The former Kaduna governor fell out with President Tinubu when he did not get a ministerial nod and felt used and dumped given his role to the emergency of the latter as President of Nigeria.
