PDP is not bound by Wike’s agreements – Party chieftain

Any agreements signed by Nyesom Wike, a well-known member of the PDP, have been rejected by the party, which claims that they are private and do not represent the party’s official position.

This statement comes amid an intensifying internal conflict that still jeopardises the party’s cohesiveness and togetherness.

Daniel Woyengikuro, the national financial secretary for the PDP, claimed in an interview with the press on Sunday that the party was not involved in any transactions the former governor of Rivers State made.

He underlined the necessity of the National Executive Committee (NEC), the party’s top decision-making body outside of the convention, meeting and resolving the escalating conflicts.

Wike’s public charges were rejected by Woyengikuro, who also counselled Nigerians to approach the proper authorities for official party posts.

But in his own remarks, PDP Board of Trustees member Rt Hon. Jones Onyereri presented an opposing viewpoint. He asked why someone would renege on arrangements mediated by well-known party leaders.

Wike’s recent allegations that important PDP leaders, like Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, breaking earlier agreements meant to stabilise the party are the source of the controversy.

Wike declared that he was pulling out of all such agreements, citing dishonesty and a lack of confidence.

Since many calls to PDP National Publicity Secretary Debo Ologunagba’s mobile line remained unanswered as of press time, attempts to contact him for the party’s official statement were fruitless.

Meanwhile the party has announced that its convention would be held on the 27th of may.

In a public announcement signed by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologungba, he said that the event would be held at the PDP National Secretariat Plot 1970, Michael Okpara Street, Wuse Zone 5, Abuja, at 12 NOON.

He said, “All members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the general public may recall the 600th meeting of the National Working Committee (NWC) held on Tuesday, 29th April, 2025, wherein the NWC resolved to hold the 99th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting on Tuesday, 27th May, 2025, and the Acting National Chairman, H.E. Amb. Iliya Damagum’s Media address on the same Tuesday, 29th April, 2025, on the summoning of the NEC.”
