Tinubu receiving performance based endorsement – Top APC Chieftain

Senator Orji Kalu of the Abia North Senatorial District has disputed claims that President Bola Tinubu’s mounting endorsements for re-election in 2027 are motivated by opposition alliances.

He insisted that the President’s popularity stems only from his performance and policy direction, not political fear.

Addressing Senate journalists before plenary on Tuesday, Kalu insisted that the President’s popularity stems directly from his performance and policy direction, rather than political worry.

“The APC is not afraid of any opposition coalition. We are the ruling party, and we love Nigeria. That is why many of us are investing in industries across the country to create jobs beyond government efforts,” he said.

The former Senate Chief Whip and current Chairman of the Senate Committee on the South-East Development Commission emphasised that while opposition criticism is to be expected in a democratic context, it should not be seen as weakness on the part of the ruling party.

“The opposition must fight; that’s their job. But our job is to deliver, and we’re doing it. In the coming years, Nigerians will appreciate what Mr President is doing,” Kalu added.

Kalu also discussed the Southeast’s support for Tinubu, stating that the region’s endorsement came before many others and was sponsored by Southeast leaders, including governors and federal politicians.

On economic grounds, he praised Tinubu’s bold measures, including eliminating fuel subsidies and unifying the currency rate. While acknowledging the difficulties these reforms have presented, he maintained that they were important for long-term economic stability.
