2027: APC Chieftain Dispels ‘Malicious Rumours’ Of Plans To Substitute Shettima

Amid growing concerns over a possible fallout, Ismaeel Ahmed has dismissed Tinubu-Shettima rift rumours as baseless.
The APC North-East conference in Gombe sparked Tinubu-Shettima rift rumours after Shettima’s name was omitted during endorsement.
Ahmed, a former APC Board of Trustees member, said Tinubu-Shettima rift rumours are “malicious” and entirely without merit.

He clarified that no internal plan exists to replace Vice President Shettima ahead of the 2027 presidential campaign.
According to Ahmed, the speculation is harmful and unfounded, as both leaders maintain a professional and trusting relationship.
“Who enjoys a 100 percent perfect relationship? That’s unrealistic—there is mutual respect between Tinubu and Shettima,” he said.

Ahmed reiterated there has been no discussion or plan from within the presidency to substitute Vice President Shettima whatsoever.
He stated that individuals spreading these rumours likely misunderstand presidential dynamics or have limited political insight and knowledge.
“These are distractions,” Ahmed asserted, urging the APC and the nation to prioritise governance over unverified political gossip.

“We have two more years before the general election; let’s focus on delivering results and fulfilling our national mandate.”
Ahmed emphasized the government should focus on development goals, not fabricated narratives that weaken its commitment to the people.
He said it’s vital for the party to respect electoral laws, especially the guidelines already set by INEC for campaigns.

Addressing the endorsement incident, Ahmed said APC traditions support unopposed re-election bids for sitting presidents, not internal conflicts.
He insisted the president’s endorsement was procedural and did not signify disagreement or marginalisation of Vice President Shettima.
In conclusion, Ahmed called for unity, stressing the need to highlight achievements rather than dwell on speculative division narratives.
