Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has expressed his intention to pursue a fresh challenge with a more prominent team in the upcoming season.
Nwabali’s exceptional performance contributed to Nigeria securing the silver medal in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations held in Ivory Coast.
Several clubs have been rumored to be interested in acquiring the services of the talented goalkeeper, with Kaizer Chiefs being the most frequently mentioned.
Displaying unwavering determination, Nwabali is eager to embrace a new challenge, and considering Amakhosi’s restructuring, they may succeed in persuading the Nigerian to join their ranks.
“In all honesty, the desire to seek growth is inherent in everyone occupying a certain position,” remarked the 27-year-old during a press conference. “Similarly, I aspire to further develop myself. I am contemplating a move to a club of higher stature than my current one [larger than Chippa United], given my unwavering commitment to the club this season. I simply yearn for a fresh challenge elsewhere.”
Reflecting on his recent performance, he added, “This season has undoubtedly been one of the most remarkable in my football career, both within and beyond Chippa. I have cherished my time at Chippa this season and being part of this family. We have concluded the season on a positive note compared to the previous one. Undoubtedly, this season has been one of the most fulfilling for me.”
The inconsistent Brandon Petersen currently serves as the backup goalkeeper at Amakhosi, while Bruce Bvuma maintains his position as the first-choice goalkeeper.
Having been recognized for his 25 years of dedicated service to the club, Itumeleng Khune’s departure seems imminent in the coming days.
Nwabali may perceive an opportunity to challenge Bvuma for the starting role if he decides to sign with the prestigious Soweto giants.
Nwabali is anticipated to depart for Nigeria to reunite with his Super Eagles teammates for the 2026 Fifa World Cup qualifier against South Africa.
Nwabali delivered an impressive performance to thwart Bafana Bafana’s advancement in the Afcon, and Hugo Broos’ squad may be seeking retribution.
