Former Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, has said the coalition movement under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) platform will not survive.
Ortom disclosed that he has no plans of leaving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), a party he claimed to lead in Benue State. He affirmed he has no intention to join the opposition coalition.
Orton revealed this during an interview on Channels Television. He also said he does no regret at all, working against Atiku Abubakar’s presidential ambition in the 2023 election.
“I did not hide it. I have no regret,” the former governor said.
Recall, Ortom was a member of the G5 governors within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who openly rejected Atiku as the PDP flag bearer and worked for Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2023. The G5 PDP governors in 2023 consisted of Governors Nyesom Wike, Rivers; Seyi Makinde, Oyo; Samuel Ortom, Benue; Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, Enugu; Okezie Ikpeazu, Abia.
He reiterated that their action was not a betrayal but a pursuit of political interest. The former governor stressed that politics cannot be separated from interest, noting that, “If I have somebody working against my interest and the interest of my people, I have to fight back.”
The former Benue governor further said the coalition under the ADC will fade away like the morning sun.
Ortom said he was not surprised by Atiku’s recent exit from the PDP.
“People are free to join any coalition that they so wish, but for me, and the people that I lead, we remain in PDP. I’m the leader of PDP in Benue State and a member of the BoT.
“I am not joining any coalition. We have no business with that.
“I don’t see it surviving.
“In any case, even if they survive, if they are through with the litigation that is going on, they will be defeated hands down,” Ortom said.
