ABUJA – President Bola Tinubu has celebrated the Super Falcons’ WAFCON 2024 victory, calling it a national triumph.

He connected with the team via video call shortly after their 3–2 comeback win over Morocco in Rabat, Morocco.

The Falcons stunned the host nation in the WAFCON final at the Olympic Stadium, marking Nigeria’s record 10th title win.

Tinubu congratulated the team inside their dressing room and promised a formal celebration upon their return to Nigeria soon.

He praised standout players Esther Okoronkwo, Folashade Ijamilusi, and Jennifer Echegini for their heroic and timely contributions.

Esther’s penalty started the comeback; Folashade equalized, and Jennifer scored the winning goal that sealed Nigeria’s dominance.

Tinubu also commended team captain Rasheedat Ajibade, who was named Player of the Tournament, for her inspiring leadership.

“You have made us proud. The whole nation celebrates you. Our spirits are lifted because of your performance,” Tinubu said.

He added, “Esther, Shade, Jennifer—well done. Rasheedat, your leadership was powerful. I saw that penalty; you were brave.”

“To win a tenth title in Africa is no small achievement. You’ve brought pride to our country and the entire continent.”

Tinubu thanked the coaching crew, the Sports Minister, and officials, affirming that they would all be celebrated together.

In response, Ajibade thanked the President for ensuring the timely payment of bonuses and affirmed they’d return home with pride.

“We appreciate your support, Sir. We’ll present the trophy to you ourselves when we return to Nigeria,” she promised confidently.

President Tinubu replied, “Travel safe, enjoy your victory. The nation awaits your return. You’ll receive a hero’s welcome soon.”
