Veteran Nigerian musician and activist, Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy, has narrated how the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, surprised him with a symbolic ‘Ghana Must Go’ bag.
In a post shared on his official X handle, Charly Boy revealed that Obi called him around 1am, stating his intention to pay a courtesy visit by 5am. Despite the odd hour, he obliged, and Obi arrived at his residence as promised.
According to the socio-political activist, the surprise came when he discovered a large ‘Ghana Must Go’ bag by his sitting room entrance. “I look at the bag, I just dey wonder, wetin fit dey inside this bag?” he wrote.
Charly Boy explained that Obi spent nearly two hours with him, discussing politics, Nigeria, and family matters. Before leaving, Obi presented the bag as a gift, which the musician later discovered contained roasted groundnuts, kolanuts, alligator pepper, pawpaw, oranges, agara, mangos, bananas, and other locally sourced items—handpicked by Obi himself.
He recalled Obi’s words: “Senior, I no fit give you money, but I fit give you this one, na my hand pick.”
The revelation sparked amusement, as Charly Boy admitted he laughed uncontrollably after discovering the content. He praised Obi’s humility and native intelligence, describing the gesture as uncommon in today’s political class.
Charly Boy, a staunch supporter of Peter Obi and an active member of the Obidient movement, vigorously campaigned for him during the 2023 presidential election.
