Deputy Governorship candidate of the Young Progressive Party (YPP), Mr. Uzu Okagbue, has expressed strong optimism that his party will emerge victorious in the upcoming November 8 Anambra Governorship election. Speaking to journalists in Dunukofia Local Government Area, Okagbue stated that the incumbent Anambra governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has become increasingly unpopular due to what he described as a poor performance, making him an easy opponent to defeat. The YPP is presenting Paul Chukwuma as its governorship candidate.
Soludo’s Performance Under Fire
Okagbue did not mince words when criticizing Governor Soludo, labeling him as a “weak incumbent” and the “worst governor” the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has produced. He accused the administration of failing across multiple sectors of governance. Okagbue pointed to worsening insecurity and a decline in educational standards as key indicators of the governor’s underperformance.
Education and Infrastructure Failings
Citing a dramatic drop in Anambra’s educational ranking from first to 33rd position, Okagbue questioned the governor’s policies, particularly the recruitment of “cheap labor” as teachers. He also highlighted the poor quality of road projects, claiming they are failing even as they are being constructed. These issues, he said, are well-known to the people of Anambra and will influence their vote.
YPP Offers a ‘Bold Vision’ for Anambra
Mr. Okagbue presented the YPP ticket as the only viable alternative for the people of Anambra State. He praised the party’s governorship candidate, Paul Chukwuma, for his “bold vision and clear ideas.” According to Okagbue, the YPP ticket represents the “only hope to rescue Anambra from its present doldrums” and will deliver the change that the people deserve on November 8.
