The National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Debo Ologunagba, has dismissed claims that the opposition party is dead. He said critics are only proving the PDP’s relevance by constantly talking about it.
Ologunagba made the statement while speaking on Channels TV.
According to him, those spreading the narrative that PDP is dead are the same people who cannot stop monitoring the party’s activities.
“If PDP is dead as they claim, why are they still obsessed with us? Why do they keep talking about us every day? It only shows the PDP remains the main party to beat,” he said.
He said it is wrong to describe the PDP as a “failed party” simply because it has lost elections in the past.
“Failure? Failure of what? The PDP is not a failed party. What we are experiencing are defections largely induced by intimidation and harassment from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC),” he said.
“What is happening is intimidation and coercion by the APC to lure members away,” he said.
Asked if Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, could emerge as the party’s presidential candidate, Ologunagba said Makinde is qualified but that the PDP would present its strongest option for 2027.
“Is he qualified? Yes. But the PDP will put forward its best candidate, someone who can defeat the APC in the 2027 elections,” he said.
He insisted that the PDP is stable and focused on rebuilding, adding that the party is already making preparations for its special convention in Ibadan.
