The African Democratic Congress (ADC), has said no one is accusing the Federal Government of Nigeria of persecuting Christians in the country.
Featuring in an interview on Politics Today, a programme on Channels Television, on Tuesday, the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Bolaji Abdullahi, said the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), believes that any form of criticism is an attack on them.
Abdullahi’s statement follows the declaration of Nigeria as a ‘Country of Particular Concern’ over allegations of Christian genocide by President Donald Trump of the United States.
Trump also said he had asked the Department of War to prepare for possible military action in Nigeria if the Nigerian government “continues to allow the killing of Christians”.
The ADC spokesperson said, “Nobody is accusing this government of persecuting Christians or religious bigotry. They are missing the point.
“They (APC) think any form of criticism is an attack on them, and they have demonstrated historical incompetence. The type of government we have is like someone making people embarrass him.
“Unlike the APC, we are not seeing what’s going on—especially the declaration as a ‘Country of Particular Concern’—as opportunism.
“We feel embarrassed as Nigerians that outsiders are framing our security challenge along these lines that can further divide us.”
