The National Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof Joash Amupitan has charged all political parties, governorship candidates and members to stick to the rules guiding Saturday’s election.
He made the appeal in Awka, yesterday, at the stakeholders meeting organised by the commission.
Barely 24hours after the election’s peace accord was signed by political parties’ candidates, Amupitan who is having his first taste of election as INEC chairman reiterated that the commission was fully ready for the poll.
Giving a detailed rundown of their preparations, he revealed that mock election was successfully carried out in 12 polling units in six LGAs to test and sharpen the commission’s operational readiness.
The Inspector General of Police who was represented by his Deputy in charge of Operations, Force Headquarters Abuja, DIG Ben Okolo, called for political tolerance and respect for democratic values, and urged candidates, parties and their supporters to commit genuinely to peace before, during, and after the election.
The election will be held in 326 wards, 5718 polling units, 183 split polling units with 6,879 active BVAS machines.
24, 000 adhoc personnel went through training on election duties.
