The Director, Abuja School of Social and Political Thought, Dr Sam Amadi, has said the young naval officer recently involved in a clash with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, over land access did no wrong.
Speaking in an interview on Arise Television, on Wednesday, Amadi said the Minister does not exercise the powers of the Commander-in-Chief.
Recalls that the minister and some officials of the FCT Authority, FCTA, on Tuesday clashed with soldiers in Abuja over access to a land.
Reacting to the development, Dr Amadi said, “The statement by the Defense Minister is right that officers on lawful assignments need protection of the state.
“I think it was needless for the FCT Minister to go there with people to get the officers out. And when the did had been done, he would have reported back to the Inspector-General of Police because it is the police that enforce the law in Nigeria.
“The officer acted in accordance with standard military procedure. He was authorised to be there and protect the location, and the minister cannot override the instruction given to the soldier.”
