The National Chairman of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Ajuji Ahmed, has stated that the party remains strong in Kano and is preparing to expand its influence across the northern region ahead of the 2027 elections, despite the recent wave of defections.
Ahmed spoke on Saturday while reacting to the exit of two NNPP members of the House of Representatives; Abdulmumin Jibrin and Sagir Koki who recently joined the All Progressives Congress (APC).
He maintained that the defections did not weaken the party.
“I have just two words for them: good luck. Their exit is not a minus to NNPP. In fact, more people are joining the party every day, especially in Kano.”
He said the NNPP is sure of keeping Kano in 2027 and is also setting its sights on other major northern states, including Jigawa and Kaduna.
“The party is open to running alone or in partnership with other political groups if that will strengthen its chances,” he said.
Ahmed further stressed that the NNPP actually won Taraba in the last election but lost the mandate.
He added that the party looks forward to reclaiming more seats in 2027.
Recall that the lawmakers had blamed internal issues in the NNPP for their decision to leave.
Many other members from Kano and Jigawa have also moved to the APC in recent months.
