Former councillors in Plateau State have said they will not accept what they describe as alleged plans by Governor Caleb Mutfwang to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking at the NUJ Press Centre in Jos on Monday, the spokesman of the Immediate Past Elected Councillors Forum, Dabit Dashe, said the governor’s alleged interest in joining the APC goes against his earlier public comments dismissing the party in the state.
Dashe said, “Governor Mutfwang has consistently said there is no APC in Plateau and that he would never join a party he once described as collapsing. His sudden desperation is therefore confusing.”
They accused the governor of poor leadership, saying his policies have caused hardship, homelessness, job losses, and the removal of more than four thousand youths from their positions.
The forum also alleged that he disobeyed a Supreme Court judgment by sacking elected chairmen and councillors in all 17 local government areas.
According to them, these actions should disqualify him from joining what they call “the progressive APC.”
They appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, APC National Chairman Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, and Plateau Chairman Rufus Bature to reject any attempt by the governor to join the party.
They also reminded Nigerians of Governor Mutfwang’s criticism of the APC’s Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket in the 2023 elections, questioning his sudden change in political direction.
The forum said the governor does not bring any political value to the APC and should remain in the PDP, where the opposition can continue to hold him accountable.
They endorsed President Tinubu for re-election in 2027 and expressed confidence in APC National Chairman, Prof. Yilwatda.
