Former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has urged Nigerian leaders to prioritise citizens’ welfare and embrace people-centered leadership in 2026.
Jonathan spoke in a New Year message released through his Media Assistant, Wealth Dickson Ominabo.
The ex-President emphasised that unity, shared responsibility and integrity are essential for Nigeria’s future amid economic challenges and insecurity.
Reflecting on the past year, Jonathan acknowledged the hardships Nigerians faced, adding that economic pressures and persistent insecurity tested the nation’s resilience.
“The period behind us has not been without its trials…challenges that have tested our resilience and, for many families, brought hardship and loss,” he said.
Despite these difficulties, he praised Nigerians for their courage, solidarity, and perseverance, describing their resilience as one of the country’s greatest strengths.
Looking ahead, Jonathan urged citizens and leaders to recommit to national ideals, stressing that patriotism must be paired with service, humility, and integrity.
“Leadership at all levels must be anchored in service, guided by humility and a sincere commitment to the welfare of the people,” he said.
He concluded by wishing Nigerians a peaceful and fulfilling year, while praying for steady progress toward unity, justice, and shared prosperity.
