The National Coordinator of the Coalition of All Progressives Congress Women Groups, Dr. Oluchi Erundu, emphasized the group’s determination to mobilize resources in support of women seeking elective positions. She highlighted the importance of women’s active involvement in political and governmental affairs for the sake of fairness, emphasizing that women holding political and governmental roles act as exemplary figures for future generations, motivating other women and girls to pursue leadership roles and engage actively in civic life.
During the South East zone meeting of the Coalition in Owerri, the capital of Imo state, Mrs. Erundu outlined the group’s plans to raise funds to aid their members running for elective positions and provide them with training to enhance their capabilities.”We will assist our members by raising funds and providing legal support.
The dire need for more women decision-makers in Nigeria necessitates our actions. Enhancing the representation of women in decision-making positions is crucial for fostering more inclusive and representative governance systems.”Women involved in politics often prioritize issues that directly affect women and marginalized communities, including healthcare, education, childcare, and economic empowerment.
Their presence in decision-making forums guarantees these issues receive the attention and resources they merit.Furthermore, “Empowering women in politics and governance is not merely about fairness but a strategic necessity for establishing more inclusive and efficient democracies. By breaking down barriers and creating opportunities for women to be fully engaged in political life, societies can benefit from their varied perspectives and contributions towards developing a fair and equitable world for all.
“Another speaker at the event urged those seeking political offices to step forward. However, she advised women to support their counterparts instead of harboring envy towards them.”We must cease undermining our fellow women in politics and, instead, extend our support to ensure their success. We should unite more women groups within the coalition. Those with the capabilities should come forth, and we will facilitate their success,” she expressed.
