The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has convened a crucial National Executive Council (NEC) meeting to deliberate on matters about the welfare of its members.
The meeting is set to take place at the ASUU Secretariat in Abuja and is anticipated to be attended by principal and national officers, zonal coordinators, and branch chairmen.
Invitations have been extended to those expected to participate.
As per the national officer, specific tasks assigned to the zonal coordinators and branch chairmen during the previous meeting at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Osun State, will be presented for deliberation by the NEC members.
Our source refrained from disclosing whether the Federal Government had introduced any new agenda items for negotiation or made decisions regarding unresolved issues that led to the urgent NEC gathering.
“I am not privy to any fresh governmental stances on our demands. We have numerous pending requests that necessitate the attention of the Federal Government. Numerous correspondences have been dispatched without any favorable responses.
“One thing I can confirm is that our members are deeply concerned about the withheld salaries, non-disbursement of academic earned allowances, and other challenges confronting public universities in the nation, which the government has chosen not to address,” he emphasized.
