Nigerian sprinter Olayinka Olajide is relishing a remarkable debut season as she gears up for the Paris 2024 Olympics, according to Umpire Sports. Her journey began with a standout performance at the Athletics Federation of Nigeria trials for the 2023 African Games in Asaba, Delta State. There, she clinched the women’s 100m title in February with a personal best time of 11.19 seconds.
Since her breakthrough in Asaba, the 21-year-old athlete has continued to excel, securing medals at every competition representing Nigeria over the past three months.
Her outstanding performances earned her a coveted spot in the AFN’s 35-athlete roster for the upcoming Olympic Games.
Reflecting on her achievements, Olajide shared, “Before the start of my debut season, I set ambitious goals for myself, and I am thrilled to have surpassed them.” She attributed her success to unwavering confidence and a resilient mindset, emphasizing her readiness to face any outcome in competition.
Following her triumph in Asaba, Olajide’s winning streak extended to the African Games in Ghana, where she claimed a bronze medal in the women’s 100m, silver in the 200m, and gold in the women’s 4x100m relay.
At the World Relays in the Bahamas, Olajide played a crucial role in securing Nigeria’s qualification for the Paris Olympics, competing in the 4x100m relay team.
Her accolades continued with a gold medal at the African Championships in Cameroon, solidifying her status as a rising star in international sprinting.
Looking ahead to the Olympics, Olajide expressed confidence in her coach and the training regimen, highlighting her unwavering trust in their preparation process.
