Abia Government Dedicated to Resolving All Boundary Disputes Peacefully, Says Otti
Share on FacebookShare on TwitterShare on WhatsappShare on EmailShare on Telegram

Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has assured the residents of Ugwueke in Bende Local Government Area that his administration is fully committed to resolving all boundary disputes affecting the state. This commitment was expressed during the IBO UZO FESTIVAL organized by the Chinyereugo Age Grade, and the official opening of the Isieke Civic Center, a facility funded and equipped by Chief and Chief Mrs. Johnson Chukwu.

Represented by his Deputy, Engr. Ikechukwu Lekwachi Emetu, Governor Otti highlighted that the boundary issues are linked to the state’s strategic location. Abia State is bordered by seven states: four in the South-East and three in the South-South regions of Nigeria. The Governor emphasized that the forthcoming boundary meeting, scheduled for August 12th and 13th, 2023, by the National Boundary Commission in Abuja, will play a crucial role in addressing these disputes.

In a statement from Sir Cyril Chukwudi Eke Mba, the Chief Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor, Otti reassured the public that this meeting will facilitate the clear demarcation of Abia’s boundaries with its neighboring states, including Ugwueke and Akaeze in Ebonyi State. This step is expected to help resolve long-standing boundary issues and promote stability in the region.

Governor Otti also praised the IBO UZO FESTIVAL as a vital cultural event for the Isieke people. He noted that such festivals not only strengthen cultural heritage but also boost the local economy and attract both domestic and international tourists. By enhancing cultural tourism, the festival contributes to the overall development of the state.

In his appreciation for Chief Johnson Chukwu’s contributions, Governor Otti described the Isieke Civic Center as more than just a building. He stated that it symbolizes a beacon of hope for the community, providing a space for human development, resource sharing, and fostering a united, productive community.
Former Anambra State Governor and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, spoke about the divine responsibility of leadership.

He urged leaders to view their positions as opportunities to serve and bless others. Mr. Obi commended Chief Johnson Chukwu for his humanitarian efforts and encouraged him to continue supporting the community. He also called on all Abians to support Governor Otti in delivering democratic benefits and prayed for leaders across the country to use public funds for the common good.

Various dignitaries sent their goodwill messages, including Dr. Peter Mbah, Governor of Enugu State, represented by his Special Assistant on Special Duties, Hon. Emeka Igwe; Dr. Uche Ogah, former Federal Minister; Hon. Ginger Onwusibe, Member of the House of Representatives for Isialangwa North and South; and Bar. Chijioke Nwankwo, Mayor of Bende LGA. They all praised Chief Johnson Chukwu’s philanthropy and urged him to continue his positive impact.

Mr. Igwe Elekwa, President General of Ugwueke Development Union, congratulated Governor Otti on his achievements and requested further assistance for road repairs, upgrading Ugwueke Secondary School to a State College of Agriculture, and appointing local talent to political positions.

The event also saw the attendance of notable figures including Hon. Iheanyi Frank Chinasa, actor Kanayo O. Kanayo, Prof. Azubuike Onyebuchi, Chief Medical Director of Federal Medical Centre, Umuahia, and HRH Eze Sir Ikwunna O. Ukwu, Chairman of the Ugwueke Council of Traditional Rulers.
