Former Benue State governor Samuel Ortom has called on all factions within the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to set aside their differences and work together towards a unified objective. In a statement released on Monday by his spokesperson, Terver Akase, Ortom emphasized the importance of unity within the party during a time of internal conflict.
Ortom, who has been a prominent figure in Nigerian politics, acknowledged that differing opinions and disagreements are a natural part of political life. He urged PDP members to rise above their differences and focus on the collective goals of the party. “In politics, it’s common to have various viewpoints and disagreements. However, these differences should not divide us but rather enhance our democratic process and contribute to more robust discussions within our party,” Ortom said in the statement.
The former governor also highlighted his long-standing friendship and mutual respect with his predecessor, Gabriel Suswam. He pointed out that despite any political disagreements that may arise, the mutual respect and camaraderie they share help them find peaceful resolutions. “Senator Suswam and I have always respected each other as leaders within the PDP. Our long-standing friendship underscores the importance of prioritizing the party’s welfare over individual differences,” Ortom added.
Ortom’s appeal comes at a crucial time when the PDP is grappling with internal conflicts that threaten to undermine its cohesion and effectiveness. By urging all factions to put aside their disagreements, Ortom aims to redirect the party’s focus toward its shared aspirations and collective objectives. His statement is intended to encourage party members to collaborate and strengthen the party’s unity, ensuring that it remains a formidable force in Nigerian politics.
The PDP has historically been a significant player in Nigeria’s political landscape, and Ortom’s call for unity is seen as a strategic move to restore harmony within the party. The former governor’s message is clear: despite the natural occurrence of political disagreements, the ultimate goal should be to work together for the betterment of the party and its members.
