Ekene Uzodimma, the acting chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Enugu State, expressed strong confidence on Sunday, August 18, about the party’s chances in the upcoming local government elections. Uzodimma believes APGA is well-positioned to secure both the chairmanship and councillorship seats in the Enugu Local Government Council elections.
During a Delegate Meeting and Primary Election held in Enugu, Uzodimma addressed the party members and supporters, describing the forthcoming elections as an opportunity for APGA to showcase its strength and unity. He emphasized that the party is fully prepared and expects a decisive victory.
The Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission (ENSIEC) has scheduled the local government elections for October 5. This date marks a crucial moment for APGA as they aim to make significant gains in local governance. Uzodimma highlighted the importance of these elections for the party and its broader strategy for political influence in the state.
Uzodimma credited the revitalization of APGA to the leadership of National Chairman Edozie Njoku and Chekwas Okorie, Chairman of the Board of Trustees. Under their guidance, Uzodimma noted, the party has been repositioned to take on key offices and play a prominent role in both Enugu and national politics. This strategic repositioning is aimed at strengthening the party’s presence and impact across various levels of government.
In his speech, Uzodimma emphasized that the party’s primary election process was designed to ensure that only the most credible and qualified candidates were selected. He stated, “Today, we are witnessing the APGA primaries, which will produce fair and credible candidates for the local government Chairmanship and Councillorship positions in Enugu.”
He underscored the party’s commitment to presenting candidates who are not only strategically positioned but also trained to bring about positive change in line with the people’s expectations.
Uzodimma also reassured the people of Enugu that this election will be distinct from previous ones. He expressed confidence that ENSIEC will conduct the elections impartially and transparently. His assurance was aimed at building trust among voters and ensuring that the electoral process is conducted in a manner that upholds democratic principles.
“I want ENSIEC to act as a sincere and independent election umpire that ensures a free, fair, and credible election,” Uzodimma said. He called on the electoral body to uphold high standards of integrity throughout the election process, emphasizing the importance of a transparent and unbiased election for the future of local governance in Enugu.
Overall, Uzodimma’s statements reflect APGA’s strategic focus on leveraging its current position to secure key local government roles and implement its vision for progress and reform in Enugu State. The party’s readiness and confidence in the upcoming elections signal a significant moment in local political dynamics.
