PRP Rejects Bauchi Local Government Election Results, Claims Electoral Fraud
Share on FacebookShare on TwitterShare on WhatsappShare on EmailShare on Telegram

The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) in Bauchi has formally rejected the results of the recent local government elections, describing the process as an “electoral heist.”

In a statement released on Sunday, the PRP expressed serious concerns about the integrity of the election, alleging that the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in conjunction with the Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission (BASIEC) and the state chapter of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), engaged in significant electoral manipulation.

According to the PRP, the local government elections were fundamentally flawed, with elective positions being distributed among party loyalists rather than being determined by the democratic process of voting. The party accused the PDP of orchestrating this manipulation to ensure that positions of power were filled by their supporters, undermining the democratic process.

The PRP’s statement specifically targeted the leadership of IPAC, alleging that key officials from this body were directly involved in the alleged electoral misconduct. The party claimed that the IPAC leaders were given councillorship positions as a reward for their role in facilitating and endorsing the manipulation of the election.

The statement detailed that the State Chairman of IPAC, who also serves as the state chairman of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), and his deputy, who is the State Chairman of the Young Progressive Party (YPP), along with another associate from the African Action Congress (AAC), were each awarded councillorship seats. The PRP alleged that these rewards were part of a scheme to ensure that the election process favored certain individuals and parties.

Furthermore, the PRP condemned the PDP for winning all the chairmanship and other councillorship seats in the election. The party argued that this outcome disenfranchised the voters of Bauchi State, denying them the opportunity to elect their preferred candidates and effectively mocking the principles of democracy.

The PRP has vowed to pursue further action to address the alleged electoral fraud and is calling on civil society organizations, human rights groups, and individuals who advocate for democratic values to join in condemning the purported manipulation of the electoral process. They are seeking support to push for a transparent review of the election results and to demand accountability from those responsible for the alleged fraud.

The statement concluded with a strong condemnation of the entire electoral process, calling it a “reprehensible exercise” that has tarnished the democratic reputation of Bauchi State. The PRP emphasized that this incident represents a serious violation of democratic principles and has deprived the people of Bauchi State of their fundamental rights.

These allegations raise significant concerns about the electoral process in Bauchi State and highlight the urgent need for transparency, fairness, and accountability in democratic practices. However, it is important to note that these claims have yet to be independently verified by authorities or corroborated by an official investigation.
