The Ibom Isii Arochukwu community in Abia State has commended Access Bank PLC for donating a solar-powered borehole to the community. The President General of Ibom Isii Arochukwu, Mazi Paul Ogbonnaya Okoro, praised the bank’s Retail Operation Group for the gesture.
Okoro spoke during the inauguration and official handover of the facility to the community. He promised that the community would protect the project by deploying security to safeguard it. “We will protect this project by deploying security to safeguard it,” Okoro said.
The traditional ruler of Ibom Isii kindred, His Royal Highness, Mazi Amos Okoro, represented the President General at the event. He thanked Access Bank for the donation, saying it would provide clean water for the community.
The zonal head of Access Bank Retail Operations in the South-East, Mr Goodwill Nwachukwu, lauded the bank for completing the water project. He said the project was the first of its kind under the South East for retail operation group.
Nwachukwu urged the community to own the project and give it adequate protection. “We urge members of the community where this project is sighted to own it and give it adequate protection because we believe that this project will help in solving the problem of insufficient potable water in the community,” he said.
The chairman of Arochukwu Local Government Area, Chief Okereke Ezearu, appreciated the management of the bank for considering the local government worthy of the project. Ezearu, who was represented by his deputy, Mrs Ngozi Nwafor, promised that the council would provide security for the project.
Nwafor also called on the bank to open a branch in the community. “We thank Access Bank for remembering our community and bringing this project here. It shows that the bank values the welfare of our people,” she said.
Nwafor added that the community would reciprocate the bank’s gesture by patronizing the branch. “As a result of the robust relationship that the people of Arochukwu and Access Bank now share, we call on you to site one branch here and we will reciprocate this good gesture the bank has shown to us by patronizing the branch,” she said.
The donation of the solar-powered borehole is expected to provide clean water for the Ibom Isii Arochukwu community and improve their overall well-being.
