In response to the recent Court of Appeal ruling that settled the long-running controversy over the Emirate Council reforms, the Kano State Government has urged all pertinent agencies, institutions, and individuals to fully comply.

The Court of Appeal, Abuja Division, maintained the legitimacy of the Kano State Government’s acts concerning chieftaincy appointments and the reorganization of the state’s traditional institutions, overturning previous rulings by the Federal High Court.

The Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Hon. Ibrahim Adamu; the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Musa Bello; and the Commissioner for Information, Hon. Halima Yusuf, were among the top government officials who stressed the importance of strictly adhering to the ruling during a press conference on Saturday at the NUJ Press Centre in Kano.

“All decisions, pronouncements, and orders made by the Federal High Court in this matter have been quashed and set aside,” said Hon. Ibrahim Adamu. “The appellate court has upheld the law enacted by the Kano State House of Assembly and fully legalised all actions taken by the governor pursuant to that law.”

The administration emphasized that the ruling establishes a precedent for upholding constitutional limits in chieftaincy concerns in addition to validating its changes.

“We call on all relevant authorities and stakeholders to respect this judgement and act accordingly,” Hon. Musa Bello stated. “It is essential to give full effect to the ruling to maintain peace, harmony, and the rule of law in our beloved state.”

The government further reiterated its commitment to fostering unity and development in Kano, emphasizing the importance of cooperation among all parties involved.

“This is a victory for justice and fairness,” Hon. Halima Yusuf added. “We urge everyone to work with the government to ensure that the reforms achieve their intended goals of equitable representation and inclusive governance across all emirates.”

In order to maintain Kano’s cultural legacy while promoting modernization and growth, the administration used the occasion to reassure the populace that it was prepared to collaborate closely with traditional institutions.

“This judgement marks a turning point in our efforts to harmonise tradition and progress,” the commissioners jointly stated. “Let us all prioritise the collective good of Kano State and move forward in unity.”

As the dust settles, the Kano State Government has reiterated its demand for harmony and adherence to the law, and urging all sides to accept the ruling and support the stability and development of the state.
