The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested 245 suspects following raids on abandoned buildings and isolated areas notorious for criminal activities.
The large-scale operation, conducted between February 6 and 23, 2025, was aimed at dismantling crime syndicates and preventing illicit activities across Abuja. According to the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the intelligence-led operations focused on high-crime areas such as Kurudu, Dutse Alhaji, Kubwa, Wuye, Galadimawa, Iddo, Kuje, Apo, Zuba, Asokoro, Karshi, and Byazhin, among others.
Law enforcement officers targeted black spots, abandoned buildings, and other locations suspected of harboring criminals, leading to the apprehension of suspects now undergoing profiling and screening.
During the raids, police recovered an assortment of weapons and illicit substances, including machetes, axes, dried leaves suspected to be marijuana, handmade bongs, and pills believed to be illegal drugs. The police also discovered identity cards and other items linked to various crimes. The authorities confirmed that those found guilty of criminal offenses would face prosecution in accordance with the law.
The FCT Police Command has also intensified surveillance on abandoned buildings, warning that many of these structures are being used as hideouts for criminals and drug peddlers. Property owners have been advised to secure their buildings to prevent illegal occupation, while relevant government agencies have been urged to take swift action to address the misuse of such properties.
FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Olatunji Disu, reassured residents of the police force’s commitment to ensuring public safety. He urged Abuja residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities through the provided emergency contact numbers. The Command emphasized that collaborative efforts between law enforcement and the community are crucial to maintaining a secure environment.
As part of ongoing crime prevention measures, the police pledged to continue proactive operations against criminal elements in the FCT. Authorities also called on the public to support security agencies by providing timely and credible information that could help in combating crime across the city.
