Kehinde Edun, a legal adviser to Abure, has accused and criticised Abia State Governor Alex Otti for his stance
against Julius Abure, the sacked former party’s national chairman.
The legal adviser, Edun alluded that the Abia state governor was not in a position to distribute positions in the party
However, reports gathered that Otti claimed to have counselled Abure to resign as the party chairman following the
leadership dispute.
The party has been in turmoil, following a recent Supreme Court decision that overturned the Court of Appeal in
Abuja’s ruling affirming Abure as the party’s national chairman.
However, the leader of the Labour Party caucus in the House of Representatives, Honourable Afam Ogene, has stated
that the embattled party chairman, Julius Abure, can still seek re-election as the national chairman if he chooses.
According to the leader of the Labour Party’s caucus in the House of Representatives, Abure is being supported by the
ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to undermine the opposition party.

A caretaker committee headed by Senator Nenadi Usman was previously established by a number of party
heavyweights, including Governor Alex Otti and Peter Obi, the party’s 2023 presidential contender, to take over from him.
Honourable Ogene insisted that the judgement has sacked Abure as chairman of the party. He, however, said that
Abure can still recontest for the position.
“Exit the stage, but that does not mean leaving the Labour Party. The door is still open for him to run for election if he
wants to remain as the national chairman, but the process must be followed through. He would have to wait until we have the structures from the wards and up,” Ogene said.
Concerning the party’s headquarters currently occupied by the Abure group, Ogene stated they would take control of the secretariat within a few days, emphasising that they are simply following due process.
