Action Alliance Urges INEC to Dismiss Rival Leadership Claims

The Action Alliance (AA) has formally requested that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) disregard the claims made by the Rufai Omoaje faction, which argues that Kenneth Udeze should not be recognized as the legitimate National Chairman of the party. In a detailed letter addressed to the INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, the AA emphasizes that numerous court rulings have validated Udeze’s position, directly contradicting Omoaje’s assertions.

In the letter, which was signed by Kenneth Udeze, the party accused Omoaje’s supporters of engaging in misinformation campaigns and attempting to coerce INEC Chairman Professor Yakubu. Udeze highlighted that these actions were part of a broader attempt to undermine his leadership, which has been consistently upheld by the judiciary.

Udeze referenced specific court decisions to support his claim. The letter points to a Supreme Court case (SC CV 1259/2022), arguing that this case did not address or impact Udeze’s status as National Chairman. Instead, the case was an abandoned interlocutory appeal concerning procedural issues, rather than a substantive challenge to Udeze’s leadership.

Additionally, the letter mentioned a key ruling by the Court of Appeal (CA/ABJ/CV/955/2022), which affirmed Udeze’s election as the legitimate National Chairman. This judgment was critical in reinforcing Udeze’s position and dismissing Omoaje’s claims. Udeze stressed that Omoaje’s appeal to the Supreme Court in suit No: SC CV 162 2024 is currently the only appeal addressing the leadership of the Action Alliance and is still pending.

The AA’s letter further warns against recognizing Omoaje as the party’s leader, emphasizing that his ongoing appeal lacks merit. The party reassured INEC and the Nigerian public that Udeze’s leadership was both legitimate and supported by the courts.

The Action Alliance’s request aims to ensure that INEC remains focused on the legally validated leadership structure of the party and does not fall prey to the attempts of the Omoaje faction to disrupt the established order. By presenting a clear and well-supported argument, the AA hopes to maintain stability within the party and uphold the decisions made by the judiciary.

The letter concludes by reaffirming Udeze’s role as the authentic National Chairman, urging INEC to ignore the baseless claims of the Omoaje faction and to respect the judicial rulings that have consistently supported Udeze’s leadership.
