The Akwa Ibom State Government has announced plans to station personnel from the Ibom Watch Security Outfit in every village across the state. This initiative, aimed at enhancing community policing, will involve collaboration between the security outfit and the Nigeria Police.
Governor Umo Eno disclosed this on Monday during a courtesy visit by the newly appointed Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare. Eno expressed concerns about the financial burden caused by vandalism, particularly the destruction and theft of transformers, which have disrupted rural development efforts.
“For community policing, we are deploying the Ibom Community Watch operatives to ensure every village has at least one security personnel. They will act as eyes for the police, providing crucial information to address this menace,” Eno said.
The governor emphasized the state government’s commitment to supporting security agencies, highlighting their robust partnership as a foundation for peace and development. He assured that the government would continue to prioritize security to safeguard public utilities and improve community welfare.
Governor Eno also expressed confidence in CP Azare’s ability to address the state’s security challenges, given his familiarity with the terrain as a former Deputy Commissioner of Operations in Akwa Ibom. “We anticipate a symbiotic relationship with the Nigeria Police to enhance the well-being of Akwa Ibom residents,” he added.
In his remarks, CP Azare thanked the governor for his unwavering support for security agencies and pledged to sustain collaboration with the government and other stakeholders to maintain peace and security throughout the state.
