Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has marked his inauguration day with a significant act of mercy, pardoning 43 convicts in the state. This move is aimed at promoting reformative justice and humane governance, according to a statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Mr. Ebenezer Adeniyan.
The pardon follows the recommendation of the State Advisory Council on the Prerogative of Mercy, chaired by the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Kayode Ajulo. As part of this initiative, eight individuals who were previously incarcerated have been granted outright release.
Additionally, 15 condemned inmates who were sentenced to death by hanging have had their sentences commuted to various prison terms. Furthermore, 20 other convicts serving life imprisonment have also had their sentences adjusted to more lenient terms.
