As preparations for his coronation on April 5, 2025, reach their final stages, the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Owoade,
has called for peace and moderation among the people of Oyo.
In a statement issued by his Director of Media and Publicity, Bode Durojaiye, the new monarch urged indigenes and
residents of the ancient town to celebrate the occasion with unity and peace, emphasizing that “beating the drums of
vendetta, persecution, and acrimony” will not yield any positive results.
Oba Owoade, who officially ascended the throne on January 13, 2025, following the death of the late Oba Adeyemi,
highlighted the importance of community development and harmonious relations.
He pointed out that peace and unity are vital for building a strong, sustainable community and advancing
infrastructural development. He called on every citizen to take responsibility in promoting good relationships, which
are essential for fostering growth in the town.

The coronation ceremony is set to take place on April 5, 2025, at the Olivet Baptist High School in Oyo. The town is
already brimming with excitement as preparations are in full swing. Hotels have been fully booked, roads are being
rehabilitated, and billboards and posters of the new Alaafin are visible throughout the city. The community is buzzing
with anticipation for the historic event, which is expected to be a grand occasion marked by festivities and high spirits.
Born into a prominent royal family, Oba Owoade’s background is steeped in both local tradition and modern
education. Before ascending the throne, he had a successful career in mechanical engineering and project
management, with a background that includes studies in Nigeria, the United Kingdom, and Canada.
He also served as the Project Coordinator at Manitoba Hydro in Canada. The coronation ceremony promises to be a
significant event not just for the town of Oyo but for the entire Yoruba kingdom, as Oba Owoade’s reign begins with a call for peace, unity, and progress.
