The Benue State Government denies allegations suggesting that Governor Hyacinth Alia is aiming to undermine the investments of his predecessor, Samuel Ortom, in the state. UmpireNews has gathered information indicating that a group known as Defenders of Democracy has claimed that Governor Alia is planning to carry out a raid and shut down all businesses associated with Oracle Business Limited by making unfounded accusations.
It is important to note that the Oracle enterprise was established by the former governor.
Responding to the allegations, Solomon Iorpev, the Technical Adviser to Governor Alia on Media Publicity and Strategic Communication, emphasized that the idea of impeding businesses goes against Alia’s efforts to promote small-scale enterprises. He urged the group to provide solid evidence to support the claim that the governor is plotting to obstruct his predecessor’s investments.
Speaking to the press, Iorpev said, “If they allege that the governor is trying to undermine the former governor’s business, they must back up their claims with evidence and documentation, as the government operates based on concrete proof rather than mere allegations.
“They are simply making baseless accusations from all angles. The governor is dedicated to fostering the growth of small-scale enterprises and bolstering existing businesses to boost the state’s economy.
“Why would the governor want to sabotage a business that is already making a positive impact on the economy?
“However, if the governor uncovers financial misconduct or irregularities during his tenure, he may launch an investigation. The governor’s actions are guided by a commitment to effective governance rather than personal grudges.
“If a former governor or administration engaged in financial mismanagement, the governor will certainly seek to hold those responsible for the funds accountable, as accountability is crucial at the national level.
“For example, if it is revealed that the former governor is diverting government funds to his business, and such transactions can be traced to specific accounts, appropriate measures will be taken to address the situation.”
