The Ondo State Security Network Agency, also known as Amotekun Corps, has arrested a 28-man syndicate of fake travel agents who were involved in duping innocent people on visa processing to the United States and Australia.
The syndicate, which was notorious for its nefarious activities, would invite unsuspecting members of the public with promises of procuring visas for them. Once the victims took the bait, the syndicate would collect money ranging from $1,500 to $2,000 from them and then kidnap them.
The victims were then housed in a location in Oda, Akure, and the only condition for their release was to bring another set of victims to be kidnapped. The Amotekun Corps was able to crack down on the syndicate through its intelligence section.
Chief Adetunji Adeleye, Commandant of the Amotekun Corps, disclosed that the syndicate was an international one, being coordinated by a Ghanaian resident in Akure who is currently at large. Adeleye warned that the long arm of the law would soon catch up with the fleeing suspect.
The Amotekun Corps also rescued some of the victims and reunited them with their families. Adeleye advised youths to be cautious in their quest to seek greener pastures abroad and ensure that their transactions are with credible people.
In a related development, the Amotekun Corps also arrested 33 suspects for alleged kidnapping, cultism, attempted murder, theft, and open grazing across the state. Adeleye reiterated the ban on the operations of motorcyclists between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m., except those on essential duties.
The corps warned that it would clamp down on erring motorcyclists and unregistered vehicles across the state. Adeleye urged members of the public to go about their legitimate activities and provide useful information to the corps on 08079999989.
The Amotekun Corps’ efforts to curb crime and ensure security in Ondo State have been commendable.
