Leaders in Dunukofia Local Government Area, Anambra, have committed to ensuring Governor Charles Soludo wins the 2025 governorship election. This decision was made during the launch of local and ward committees for the ‘Dunukofia-4-Soludo Pilot,’ a grassroots support group, held at the Dunukofia Council secretariat in Ukpo on Sunday.
Mr. Emeka Okonkwo, the Convener of ‘Dunukofia-4-Soludo Pilot’ and Managing Director of the Anambra Road Transport Authority, spoke at the event. He emphasized that the group’s main goal is to secure a victory for Soludo in the upcoming election.
According to Okonkwo, Governor Soludo has delivered significant benefits to Anambra and Dunukofia, including extensive road improvements, and thus deserves a second term.
Okonkwo stated, “The main purpose of today’s event is to launch this local support group. Our objective is to ensure that Governor Soludo wins his second term. With over 500 kilometers of roads developed across Anambra, Governor Soludo has been outstanding, and we must support his re-election.”
Mr. Cheta Nwegwu, the National Coordinator of the group, echoed these sentiments. He praised Soludo for his contributions to Anambra and Dunukofia, including road construction, appointments of locals to his cabinet, civil service recruitment, and youth empowerment.
Nwegwu highlighted that Dunukofia was leading the way by creating a grassroots support group born out of genuine support for the governor.
“We understand that politics is local. By setting up this support group, we aim to ensure the governor’s re-election. We will all be at our polling units on election day,” Nwegwu said.
He also noted that Nawgu community received its first tarred road under Soludo’s administration, and Dunukofia has seen significant benefits, including numerous local appointees in important government positions.
Chief Ifeatu Obiokoye, Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), supported the formation of local support groups, stating that the party alone could not achieve its goals without grassroots support. He emphasized the importance of having a strong presence at the local level and promised that APGA would support these grassroots efforts more actively than before.
Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim, Deputy Governor of Anambra, inaugurated the group and praised the Soludo administration for bringing substantial development to the state. He urged the people to continue supporting the governor and commended Dunukofia for recognizing Soludo’s efforts.
Ibezim also highlighted that conducting Local Government Council elections was part of Soludo’s promises, fulfilled within three years of his administration.
