Ahead of the state’s elections on November 8, 2025, George Muoghalu, the former managing director of the National
Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), has secured the Labour Party’s ticket for governor.
At the party’s primary on Saturday in Awka, the capital of Anambra State, Muoghalu received 575 votes.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officials, the party’s electoral team, and other observers kept
an eye on the primary election.
During the accreditation, voting, sorting, and counting procedures, the delegates behaved in a disciplined way at the
Finotel Hotel, the venue of the election.

John Nwosu, Muoghalu’s co-contender, received nineteen votes after withdrawing from the race earlier on Saturday.
In response to his win, Muoghalu stated that the party’s faith in him would not be misplaced because the time had
come for Anambra to establish a successful and inclusive state.
On Saturday, Moghalu will face off against the current governor, who also became the All Progressives Grand
Alliance’s (APGA) consensus choice.
In the primary, which was also held in Awka, Soludo received more than 300 votes in favour of himself and was
returned without opposition.
