The Anambra State Police Command has announced a major overhaul of its Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in a bid to enhance intelligence gathering and security operations in the state.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, has directed the immediate restructuring of the CID formation.
The restructuring is aimed at strengthening the department’s investigative capacity and improving its response to emerging crime trends.
As part of the overhaul, a new political desk unit has been established within the CID to monitor political developments and provide security guidance for political campaigns and other sensitive events.
The unit will conduct threat assessments, implement risk management strategies, and provide security guidance to ensure the safety of all residents in the state.

The Police Commissioner has also proposed the acquisition of modern forensic equipment to enhance evidence analysis, improve suspect profiling, and increase efficiency in crime scene investigations.
The move is part of the Command’s efforts to align its forensic capabilities with global best practices in criminal investigations.
The CID Awka remains the apex investigative unit of the Command, playing a pivotal role in maintaining law and order in the state.
The Police Commissioner has reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to proactive policing, professional excellence, and the safety of all residents of Anambra State.
