APC Leader Calls on Governors to Support Tinubu’s Success

Hon. Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, a leading figure in the All Progressives Congress (APC) from Osun State, has called on the 36 state governors to demonstrate greater commitment to President Bola Tinubu’s efforts to tackle economic hardship in Nigeria. Oyintiloye believes that the governors’ active support for the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda is essential for steering the country toward economic stability and growth.

In a recent statement to the press in Osogbo, Oyintiloye emphasized the need for governors to back the President’s initiatives wholeheartedly. He argued that despite several federal interventions aimed at alleviating economic difficulties—particularly after the controversial removal of fuel subsidies—some governors have not been as proactive or supportive as needed. Oyintiloye’s comments come at a time when the country is grappling with significant economic challenges, and he stresses that the effectiveness of these federal measures relies heavily on the cooperation of state leaders.

The APC leader highlighted that the various financial aids and resources provided by the federal government to the states intended to reduce poverty and improve living conditions, have not significantly impacted the overall well-being of the citizens. He pointed out that if the governors were genuinely committed to these efforts, the recent unrest and protests marked by looting, violence, and destruction might have been prevented.

Oyintiloye expressed particular concern over allegations that some governors may have mishandled or diverted aid, such as bags of rice and other essential supplies sent to states to ease the suffering of the population. These allegations, if true, would undermine the effectiveness of the federal government’s interventions and exacerbate the public’s hardships.

According to Oyintiloye, it is crucial for governors to demonstrate integrity and commitment in their roles. He emphasized that cutting wasteful expenditures and addressing corrupt practices are vital steps in supporting President Tinubu’s economic reforms. The burden of improving the nation’s economic situation cannot fall solely on the President, Oyintiloye argued. Governors need to play an active role in ensuring that the resources allocated to their states are used effectively to benefit the people.

Although Oyintiloye acknowledged that some governors are making sincere efforts to support the President’s agenda, he believes that more widespread and visible commitment is necessary. He stressed that the patience of the Nigerian people is being tested and that the President’s efforts to alleviate economic difficulties should be complemented by robust actions at the state level.

Oyintiloye also addressed the recent protests, which he views as a manifestation of deep-seated economic frustration. He argued that the violence and property damage resulting from these protests are not a solution to the country’s problems. Instead, he urged Nigerians to give President Tinubu the time and support needed to implement his policies effectively. He pointed out that addressing the country’s long-standing economic issues will take more than a year and requires collective effort from all levels of government.
