Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from the North-West region gathered in Kaduna on Sunday to deliberate on various challenges and strategies for future electoral triumphs, particularly in the upcoming 2027 elections.
The national chairman of the party, Abdullahi Ganduje, highlighted the necessity of unity and proactive involvement among the stakeholders to drive Nigeria towards prosperity under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu.
Mr. Ganduje also emphasized Mr. Tinubu’s unwavering dedication to national progress and encouraged party members to unite behind his visionary leadership.
He called for awareness campaigns to enlighten Nigerians about Mr. Tinubu’s transformative agenda and his decisive actions since assuming office.
The national chairman underscored the significance of political coherence and unity in achieving success in all endeavors, emphasizing that progress cannot flourish amid discord.
He stressed the importance of strong partnerships and consultations to address challenges and leverage opportunities for the benefit of all Nigerians.
Mr. Ganduje proposed innovative measures to tackle security challenges, including the establishment of specialized forest response teams equipped with cutting-edge technology to combat banditry and kidnapping.
He advocated for the implementation of technology-driven initiatives such as e-registration to enhance party organization and preparation for future elections.
The chairman of the North West Governors’ Forum, Governor Dikko Radda of Katsina, echoed Mr. Ganduje’s call for unity and pledged full support for Mr. Tinubu’s development agenda.
Governor Radda commended the National Assembly members for their efforts in championing the North-West Development Commission and assured continued support from them and all loyal APC members.
He stated, “With a shared sense of purpose and proactive measures, the APC will usher in a new era of progress and prosperity for all Nigerians.”
In his keynote address, Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna stated that the meeting was convened to address critical issues facing the party, praising the stakeholders for their contributions to the party’s growth.
Governor Sani emphasized the strategic importance of the North-West zone within the party, advocating for a consensus-based approach to issue resolution and adherence to internal party democracy.
He lauded Mr. Tinubu’s efforts in addressing Nigeria’s security and developmental challenges and acknowledged the positive impact of his development agenda on the North-West zone.
Governor Sani further requested continued support and collaboration with Mr. Tinubu’s administration.
In his welcome speech, the APC national vice chairman for the North-West, Garba Datti, emphasized the need to address the concerning trend of suspensions within the party, particularly at the ward levels.
He identified instigators within the party who are acting against its interests while stressing the importance of following due process and the party’s amended Constitution regarding suspensions.
Mr. Datti also called for innovative ideas to prepare the party for future challenges.
He explained that the stakeholders’ meeting served as a platform for open dialogue and strategic planning to address internal challenges and reposition the APC North-West zone for future electoral successes.
Hadiza Bala-Usman, Special Adviser on Policy Coordination to the President, underscored the importance of bringing rights and resources to the zone.
She expressed gratitude to Mr. Tinubu for his unwavering support of the zone, urging all members to collaborate for the party’s advancement.
Speaking at the event, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, urged Mr. Ganduje to establish reconciliation committees at various levels to mend divisions within the party.
He also emphasized the need for peaceful coexistence among party members and encouraged forgiveness and collaboration for future achievements.
The speaker further urged party leaders to offer continuous support to the party structures beyond election cycles.
He highlighted the importance of ensuring the return of competent members to the National Assembly in 2027 and commended Mr. Tinubu for key appointments in the North-West. Mr. Abbas emphasized the significance of the ongoing constitution amendment, particularly focusing on critical areas such as state police and women’s inclusion in governance.
He proposed empowering senators and members of the House of Representatives to engage with their constituents to gather inputs for the constitutional review process.
