The All Progressives Congress (APC) rejects the Anambra South by-election result, citing voter suppression and manipulation.
INEC declared APGA’s Dr. Emmanuel Nwachukwu winner with 90,408 votes, while APC’s Azuka Okwuosa scored 19,847.
Donald Amangbo of the ADC secured third position in the contest after polling a total of 2,889 votes.
Anambra APC Chairman, Chief Basil Ejidike, accused state-backed vigilantes of holding APC’s senatorial candidate hostage during voting.
Ejidike alleged that a state government official led security agents to restrict APC candidates in Orsumenyi community.
He stated that while they distracted their governorship candidate, vigilantes locked up their senatorial candidate at home.
Chief Nicholas Ukachukwu, APC’s governorship candidate, questioned where INEC obtained results still with electoral officials.
Ukachukwu condemned the role of Agunaechemba, accusing them of flouting security agreements reached before the by-election process.
He described their actions as a clear attempt to influence results and silence APC’s growing political presence locally.
Ukachukwu said APGA avoided a fair popularity contest because they feared rejection by the people of Anambra.
According to him, APGA’s conduct shows panic despite its long-standing claim of dominating Anambra’s political landscape.
He maintained that Anambra people are ready to reject APGA and elect a new government led by APC.
Ukachukwu vowed to challenge the result in court, insisting it does not represent voters’ will in the district.
He noted that APGA’s tactics included violence, voter suppression, and the manipulation of electoral processes using local security.
Ukachukwu recalled that security agencies had agreed not to participate in the polls or carry firearms on election day.
Instead, the state-backed vigilantes allegedly carried arms, detained citizens, and operated with complete disregard for the electoral process.
He concluded that APC remains confident about winning the upcoming November 8 governorship election through popular grassroots support.
