The All Progressives Congress (APC) has taken the decision to suspend Senator Jimoh Ibrahim, who represents the Ondo South senatorial district, due to alleged anti-party conduct.
Ibrahim participated in the APC governorship primary election but was defeated by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa. He is currently contesting Aiyedatiwa’s victory in the Federal High Court in Abuja, claiming that Aiyedatiwa did not emerge as the APC flag bearer for the upcoming governorship election through a legitimate primary election.
The ward executives of the party in Igbotako Ward 11, Okitipupa Local Government Area, suspended Ibrahim following a meeting, citing his recent actions as a violation of the party’s constitution.
They pointed to the legal action taken against the APC and Aiyedatiwa, as well as his engagement in anti-party activities, as the grounds for his suspension.
In a formal communication, the party stated: “We, the members of the APC Executive Committee of Igbotako Ward Okitipupa 1, Local Government Area of Ondo State, convened a meeting on Monday, 13th May 2024. During our meeting, we extensively discussed various issues affecting the advancement and growth of our party, particularly issues of indiscipline and defiance among certain members.
“We have determined that Senator Jimoh Ibrahim’s conduct and actions are in breach of the party’s constitution, specifically his decision to initiate legal proceedings against the party and his involvement in anti-party activities. Consequently, we have decided to impose appropriate disciplinary measures against him as outlined in the party’s constitution.
“Senator Jimoh Folorunsho Ibrahim is hereby suspended from the All Progressives Congress (APC) with immediate effect due to acts of defiance and anti-party behavior in accordance with Article 21, Section A of the APC Constitution.
“It is important to note that the National Chairman of the APC, Alhaji Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, held a meeting with all Ondo State governorship aspirants on April 25, 2024, in Abuja. During the meeting, he urged them to cooperate with the party’s candidate and the incumbent Governor of Ondo State, Hon. Lucky Ormisan Aiyedatiwa.
“Despite this directive, Senator Jimoh Folorunso Ibrahim proceeded to file a lawsuit against the Governor and APC, blatantly disregarding party directives. Furthermore, he has engaged in anti-party activities by encouraging his supporters in Igbotako and Ondo State to join NNPP, claiming that he will soon secure the gubernatorial nomination from them. Senator Jimoh Ibrahim has openly expressed his intention to disrupt the APC before departing from the party, as evidenced by his actions in the Federal High Court in Abuja and his disparaging comments about the APC in various media platforms,” the party concluded.
