Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, has lauded the outcome of the local government elections held on Saturday, describing it as a true and accurate reflection of the people’s collective will.
In a statement issued on Sunday through his Chief Press Secretary, Kula Tersoo, and made available to journalists in Makurdi, the governor expressed his satisfaction with how the electoral process unfolded.
The Benue State Independent Electoral Commission, chaired by Richard Tombowua, had earlier announced the results of the election, declaring that the All Progressives Congress (APC) had emerged victorious in all 23 chairmanship positions and 276 councillorship seats.
This overwhelming victory for the ruling party showcased the party’s stronghold in the state.
Governor Alia, in his reaction to the announcement, conveyed his deep appreciation to the people of Benue for their peaceful and orderly participation in the democratic process.
He noted that the smooth conduct of the elections was a clear demonstration of the people’s overwhelming support for the APC candidates, which, according to him, underscores their belief in his administration’s vision for the state’s future.
He went on to commend the peaceful nature of the elections, emphasizing the maturity displayed by the people of Benue in embracing democratic principles.
The governor praised the citizens for maintaining order, dignity, and respect throughout the process, which he believes are critical elements for the state’s continued progress.
He remarked, “The peaceful conduct of the election is a reflection of the maturity of the Benue people to engage in a democratic process with respect and dignity, upholding peace and unity, which are critical to the state’s progress.”
The governor extended his gratitude to the citizens, recognizing their dedication to participating in the local government elections held across the state’s 23 local government areas.
He further emphasized the significance of their peaceful engagement during the election, as it reflected the state’s growing democratic maturity.
According to Governor Alia, “I extend my heartfelt gratitude to each and every one of you for your active participation in the recent local government elections across our 23 local governments. Your commitment to exercising your franchise in a peaceful and civil manner is commendable and reflects the maturity of our democracy.”
He continued by expressing pride in the peaceful and orderly way the elections were conducted, noting that the lack of violence was a clear demonstration of the collective determination of the people to maintain peace and unity—values he believes are fundamental to the growth and prosperity of the state.
The governor further stated, “The successful conduct of these elections, free from violence, is a testament to our collective resolve to uphold the values of peace and unity that are fundamental to our progress as a state. I am proud to see our citizens trooping out to make their voices heard, demonstrating that we can engage in the democratic process with respect and dignity.”
Governor Alia also noted that the massive support shown for APC candidates during the election was an indication that the people of Benue clearly recognized and supported the direction in which his administration was heading.
He interpreted their votes as an endorsement of his vision to uplift the state and lead it toward greater prosperity. This support, he said, is evidence that the people trust his leadership and are eager to join in the efforts to elevate Benue to new heights.
He reassured the people of his continued commitment to fulfilling his administration’s promises and advancing the state’s progress. The governor emphasized his determination to build a prosperous Benue where every citizen will have the opportunity to thrive.
He vowed that his administration would continue to work diligently toward improving the lives of all residents, stating that the trust placed in him through their votes would not be taken lightly.
In his concluding remarks, Governor Alia congratulated all the winners of the local government elections and encouraged those who did not win to set aside their differences and work together with both the victors and his administration.
He called for unity in the pursuit of the common goal of elevating Benue to its rightful place, urging collaboration to bring about the greatness the state deserves.
