Khamis Musa Darazo, Chairman of Arewa Youths Awareness on Leadership and Election in Bauchi State, has praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for increasing the monthly allowance for members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to N77,000. This decision comes at a critical time when many Nigerians face economic hardships due to rising costs.
In a statement he signed, Khamis described the increase as timely and necessary, especially given current inflation affecting essential goods and services. He emphasized that the new allowance will help corps members manage their expenses amid rising transportation fares. This follows the recent removal of the fuel subsidy.
Khamis noted that the government’s decision reflects its sensitivity to the struggles many citizens face. “Let me acknowledge the federal government’s consideration for the challenges facing corps members, particularly during this harsh economic downturn that Nigeria is currently undergoing,” he stated.
He stressed that this gesture is a crucial step toward alleviating some financial burdens faced by young people serving the nation.
Highlighting the broader implications of the allowance increase, Khamis remarked that it supports the corps members and sends a positive message to the youth about the government’s commitment to their welfare.
He explained that many young Nigerians feel the weight of poverty and hardship as living costs continue to soar. This allowance increase shows the government’s recognition of the youth’s role in national development.
“The manifestation of hardship and poverty, due to soaring costs, has negatively impacted Nigerians across all facets of life. I extend my sincerest gratitude for this laudable gesture,” he added.
Khamis believes that the increase will boost the morale of corps members, encouraging them to perform their duties with greater enthusiasm and dedication during their service year.
He further praised President Tinubu’s leadership and vision for a prosperous Nigeria. “The president’s dedication to the welfare of corps members reinforces the current administration’s commitment to all citizens. This increase will undoubtedly motivate the corps members to give their best,” he said.
Khamis Darazo also recalled his previous support for Tinubu’s presidential ambition. He donated his NYSC allowance during the 2023 elections. He sees this new allowance as part of a broader effort by the government to empower the youth and foster a sense of community and national pride.
