Arewa groups slams El-Rufai and Amaechi for accusing INEC of deliberately frustrating the registration of the All Democratic Alliance.
The Arewa Youth Consultative Forum and Northern Awareness Network released separate statements over the weekend condemning the former governors’ claims.
AYCF President-General Yerima Shettima labeled the accusations as baseless and a deliberate attempt to discredit Nigeria’s electoral process.
He stated INEC’s rules for political party registration are transparent, fair, and apply equally to all political associations.
According to Shettima, Arewa groups slams El-Rufai for using misleading narratives instead of confronting the ADA’s organizational weaknesses.
He emphasized that failure to meet INEC’s requirements is no fault of the commission but stems from poor party preparedness.
The AYCF chief argued that INEC cannot compromise on rules requiring verifiable addresses and recognized officers for new parties.
Shettima said political ambition alone cannot override legal frameworks guiding the recognition of any emerging political association.
He cautioned that undermining INEC with baseless accusations could damage democratic institutions and incite public distrust in elections.
Similarly, NAN Chairman Salihu Suleiman said Arewa groups has faulted El-Rufai and Amaechi for promoting a narratives harmful to Nigeria’s democracy.
